Voice Of Penang Singing Competition 2013

I missed it!!!!!
OMG! I can’t believe I’ve just missed it!!!
Grr…

This is a very interesting singing contest to join. Voice of Penang….huhuuu….missed it big time!
Organized by Penang Times Square and supported by Tourism Malaysia, Voice of Penang Singing Competition offers big prizes that not many singing competitions would offer:

(total prizes worth RM65000 + Trophy)

1st Runner-up
RM3000 cash + Trophy + 6-month contract with Worldwide Platinum Records
(total prizes worth RM33000 + Trophy)

2nd Runner-up

(total prizes worth RM16000 + Trophy)

Best Performance
RM500

Best Image
RM500

Best Stage Appearance
RM500

This big singing contest registration was opened from 4th to 31st October, but due to overwhelming response, the registration was extended to 10th Nov (but still I’ve missed it!!!)

While this is not an online submission (for audition), wannabe superstars had to get and submit the registration forms at Penang Times Square information counter.

Preliminary rounds for the competition were held on the 16th and 23rd of November.
According to their online flyer, the final qualifying round is supposed to be this coming weekend, 7th December. However, according to an update from their FB event page:

Qualifying Rounds – 30th Nov & 7th, 14th and 21st Dec 2013.
1st Semi-Final Round – 4th Jan 2014
2nd Semi-Final Round – 11th Jan 2014
Public Voting – 18th & 25th Jan 2014
Final – 8th Feb 2014

I did call them to get some information, perhaps there’s possibility to join? No chance at all…
Registration was closed on the 10th November and they’ve already short-listed 40 contestants out of over 100 contestants during the preliminary rounds. I believe some people have missed this opportunity too. Well, they did say that they are hoping to organize Voice of Penang Singing Competition Season 2 too – next year.

Guess, it’s not my luck to join this particular singing competition. Not that I expect to win, but it’s an exciting and great experience to be able to share the stage with the other potential winners. Though it’s a headache to get prepared and all that, but this is a chance of a lifetime to get noticed!

Ops, one more thing, the eligibility age for this singing contest is 18 – 35 years old. Hmm… Looks like I don’t have much time anymore to join many such competitions. Even most of the singing contests I came across are opened to youth up to 30 years of age.
Too bad….for me.

I still remember when I joined RTM singing competition. I was 20 years old. I made it to the final, but was lost to someone who is younger than me, I was not even in the Top 3. I told myself that I won’t join any singing contest anymore. Well, I did join some few years after, but not too many. My point is, it’s not crucial to win all the singing contests that you’ve joined. It’s the experience that counts. Most importantly, enjoy! 🙂

So for this Voice Of Penang Singing Competition, I hope that they will have at least another season so I could compete before I reach 36!

I would go and watch the finalists battling out their vocals on the 8th of February 2014 at Penang Times Square. Would you go?

Short Reflection of Christina Aguilera

My sister is competing in a talent competition organized by her company. She managed to get into the final 5 and was thinking to combine 2 songs in a 5-mins performance.

The initial plan was to combine and perform “Reflection” (by Christina Aguilera) and a dangdut number by Mas Idayu entitled “Senggol Senggolan Cubit Cubitan” – a slow number and an up-tempo number respectively.

Since “Reflection” track length is 3.33mins and “Senggol Senggolan Cubit Cubitan” track length is around 4.25mins – I had to shorten both tracks and combine it to a strictly under 5mins! After I spend few hours working on it, I’ve successfully combined the two tracks together with the total length of 4.58mins, using the Cool Edit Pro software.

However, after knowing that the panel of judges would be among the big bosses, she changed her mind! She prefers to sing “Reflection” only. There’s no need to dance around then 🙂

Duh, well… maybe you would like to perform this song combination? Hehe…

You may download the 3 tracks below:

1) reflection_senggolan_v1.mp3 (4.58mins) Download

For this combined tracks, you may refer to the following shorten lyrics of both songs:

Reflection

Look at me
You may think you see
Who I really am
But you’ll never know me
Every day
It’s as if I play a part
Now I see
If I wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection
Someone I don’t know?
Must I pretend that I’m
Someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?

There’s a heart that must be
Free to fly
That burns with a need to know
The reason why

I won’t pretend that I’m
Someone else for all time
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Senggol Senggolan, Cubit Cubitan
Seminggu sekali kau datang padaku
Membawa cinta yang suci
(Amboi amboi enak… 2X)
Seminggu sekali ku dimanja-manja
Dan disayang-sayang dirimu
(Amboi amboi enak… 2X)
Duduk berdua di bangku bambu
Merenda cinta aku bahagia
Duduk berdua di bangku bambu
Bercanda ria dunia terasa
Milik berdua
(Amboi…)
Indahnya cinta
(Amboi…)
Senggol-senggolan, cubit-cubitan
Aku bernyanyi kau petik gitar
Senandungkan cinta
Bunga berseri, kumbang menari
Asmara kita s’makin bersemi
Semoga abadi, semoga abadi..
Senggol-senggolan, cubit-cubitan
Aku bernyanyi kau petik gitar
Senandungkan cinta
Bunga berseri, kumbang menari
Asmara kita s’makin bersemi
Semoga abadi, semoga abadi, semoga abadi
(2x)
What Could You Bring With You?
It was daytime and there were some people in the very-familiar first-floor flat apartment, not very far from the sea.
Mom was busy doing things, cleaning and arranging and what not. So occupied that she had no time to sit down and relax. I was wondering when is she going to stop, thinking what else I could help. Maybe that happens if you know what to do and want to do, that you could instruct people to help you too. But she didn’t ask.
Outside it was raining like crazy. Some neighbours’ kids were in the house. One of them, the little one but quite obese was so tired that he couldn’t walk back home. His sister was somehow very exhausted too that she didn’t bother to carry him home, or even to walk back home! My youngest brother and the other kids took the effort to carry the little guy back to his house, but not too long after that he came back, standing just outside the door-wide-opened and shouted,
“I can’t carry him, the kids couldn’t do it too – they already ran back home!”
I saw him drenched in the rain, water was fast flowing from the glass window, the boy’s sister was already fast asleep. From the same spot since the beginning, I looked past the door and I couldn’t believe my eyes….. it’s….kind of…..tsunami??? flood? That high?? The level was already above my head!!!
“How to tell the others?”
“Where should I run?”
“Left or right?”
Quickly I ran to my left towards the balcony door, few steps after suddenly I thought,
“What important thing/document should I bring with me?”
“How about the others?”
Dumbfounded, all I could do is cried – “GOD!!! HELP!!!”
In seconds later, there was no sound of rain. It’s like being sub-merged, it’s total silence!
“GOD!!! HELP!!!”
“GOD!!! HELP!!!”
“GOD!!! HELP!!!”
….and I woke up to a Tuesday morning…
So, what could you bring with you if death is already looking at you?
None.
p/s:
Don’t know what triggered that kind of dream that day.
Recent watched movies? No. I seldom watched movie nowadays. But this reminds me of the movie “2012”.
What if it happens at night??
